We strive to create the perfect setting in which children can experience the best of summer camp: develop lasting friendships and memories, increase self-esteem by meeting fun new challenges, learn and play in a nurturing, individualized, safe environments.
For decades, children from the greater Westchester community have grown up at this summer camp. Our program continues to evolve and we excited to be adding a “Recreation Cove” with hands-on outdoor games that support independent and led play. Children turning four years old through teenagers (co-ed). Early drop-off and late pick up until 6:00pm is available. Eight (8) week program. Minimum of 2 weeks required.
Astronauts (for children turning 3 by 12/31/2018)
This program is led by seasoned early elementary professional teachers. Children experience the Camp Funkist typical day at a pace that integrates their experimental learning process; in a safe and nurturing environment. We focus on activities that are engaging, stimulating, hands on experiences that develop and support the social and emotional learning process. Musical theatre, sports, games outdoor play, science, arts and crafts and special events are just a few of the wonderful memories your child will encounter.
Rockets (for children turning 4 by 12/31/2018)
Helps start preschoolers on the road to summer camp success. Camp activities are designed to increase children’s independence, further developing their confidence and abilities. The Rockets enjoy swimming twice a week, nature, musical theater, outdoor games, special events, arts & crafts, free play, and theme days. Led by experienced early education specialists, young campers will enjoy lots of summer fun.
Lower Camp (Kindergarten through 2nd grade.)
Groups: Little Funkist, All-Stars, Blazers.
Our goal is to offer a safe, non-competitive environment for young children that provides opportunities for engagement and building great summer memories. Activity specials include science, gymnastics, sports and games, visual arts and music that are engaging and fun!
Upper Camp (3rd grade and up)
Groups: Champions, Dynamos, Eagles and Funkist Plus.
Science, sports, music, and visual arts all have a new look in our Upper Camp. Our science specialist engages the campers with new science activities each week; fencing has been added to the sports rotation; with a new element added in 2017 – Recreation Cove – featuring friendly outdoor games easily accessible for everyone; finally, campers will have unique opportunities to participate in our summer productions through music, art, stagecraft and dance activities.
Counselor In Training (for ages 15)
This leadership intensive training program is geared toward campers who would like to continue their camp experience, learn valued mission driven work with the
possibility of becoming a camp counselor in the future. Skills in leadership and life skills such as: Lifeguard training, First Aid, interview techniques, resume writing, conflict resolution techniques and communication are part of this learning process and the main focus of the program. The .C.I.T’s. are an intricate part of the staff and are valued team players.
Gymnastics Summer Camp
There is never a dull moment as we swing on the bars, flip on the trampolines, cartwheel and vault our way to a great summer.
Through this program, girls and boys have an opportunity to focus on improving specific elements and mastering new skills. Days include warm-up, morning gymnastic rotations, rest/snack, conditioning, lunch, and afternoon gymnastics rotations. Lunch is usually outside under our camp tents. Participants also have the opportunity for some downtime. In addition to weekly themes, there are special events and access to open swim in our indoor pool.
Seven action-packed weeks of gymnastics fun taught by our marvelous gymnastics instructors and coaches! Spend 1, 2, or all 7 weeks with us.
Summer Camp for Youth with Developmental Disabilities
Summer programs are designed to complement children’s extended school-year programs. Participants enjoy a variety of therapeutic recreation programs that support and strengthen cognitive, physical, social and effective skills in a safe, supportive and fun-filled environment. Family members receive support, respite, and the opportunity for family participation in recreation activities. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required. A personal assessment and tour of the facility is required for new participants. OPWDD eligibility is required.
