WREF Scholarship Application

About the Scholarship

The YWCA Women's Research and Education Fund aims to provide financial support for women in Westchester wishing to pursue or complete their college career. The WREF scholarship looks for women who are committed to making lasting change in their community and hope to use their college experience to impact the world around them.

Scholarships providied by local corporations, foundations and individuals and range from $500 - $5,000

In order to apply for this scholarship you must:

    • Be female or identify as a woman

    • Be a senior in high school or attending (or planning to attend) a college or United States accredited school pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.

    • Reflect academic achievement

    • Reflect financial need

    • Have Westchester County as permanent address, or previously been a WC resident until establishing residency in location of academic institution (for tuition beneficiary reasons.)

Application Deadline: April 19, 2019

Applicants will be notified by May 1, 2019

If selected you would be invited to a scholarship brunch on May 5th. If you are unable to make the brunch, please indicate it on your application.**

Scholarship:

1) Stock Family STEM Scholarship: This scholarship is for students who are dedicated to their community, reflect financial need and plan to pursue a degree in STEM. (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) ($2,000-$3,000)

2) Merrill Lynch: This scholarship is for students aiming to pursue a degree in business. ($3,000)

3) Liz Andrus Avon Scholarhsip: This scholarship is for a survivor of domestic violence who has accessed services through Westchester County Family Justice center or a shelter for battered women, or a service for survivors of domestic violence. ($2,500)

4) Pat Jones Social Justice Scholarship: This scholarship is for students who have benefited from the physical space of the YWCA and have a strong passion for social justice. ($1,500)

5) Future Leaders: This scholarship is for high school seniors who hope to use their education to become future leaders and change agents in their community. ($500)

Academic Recomendation

Please provide the name, contact information and a letter of recommendation from someone at your school or in your community.

Financial Information

Financial Documents:

(2017) 1040 Income tax return and W-2 of each parent or guardian providing financial support

If applicant is emancipated, then only the student tax information is required
